Childcare options in Billund Municipality
Billund Municipality provides an overview of the childcare options available, as well as practical information about applying for a childcare place, prices and other relevant matters.
Childminding (Dagpleje) for children aged 0-2
Childminding is a municipal childcare option for children aged 0–2. Your child is cared for in the childminder’s own home in a small group, normally with four children. Childminders also meet regularly with other childminders and children in local playgroups. If your regular childminder is absent, you will be offered alternative childcare.
Nursery (Vuggestue) for children aged 0-2
A nursery is a childcare centre for young children. Unlike childminding, care takes place in a childcare institution with larger groups of children and several members of staff. In Billund Municipality, you can choose between 30, 40 and 48 hours of childcare per week.
Private childcare (Privat pasningsordning) for children aged 0-2
Private childcare is an alternative to municipal childcare. You find and make an agreement with a private childminder or childcare provider yourself. Together, you agree on matters such as payment, childcare hours, holidays and what happens in case of illness. If you wish to receive a municipal subsidy, the childcare agreement must be approved by Billund Municipality.
It is important to know that private childcare is not the same as a municipal childcare service. For example, if your private childminder is ill or closed for holidays, the municipality does not automatically provide alternative childcare.
Kindergarten (Børnehave) for children aged 3-6
Kindergarten is the childcare option for children from around the age of 3 until they start school. Like nurseries, kindergartens are childcare institutions with several children and members of staff. Some institutions include both nursery and kindergarten facilities.
Using childcare in another municipality
Your child does not necessarily have to attend childcare in the municipality where you live. You can apply for a childcare place in another municipality – for example, if you live in Vejle Municipality but work in Billund and having childcare close to your workplace makes everyday life easier.
Whether this is possible depends on availability. A municipality may close its waiting list to children who live outside the municipality, so you should check the current rules before applying.
